NetEase.com, Inc. (NASDAQ: NTES), a leading Internet technology company based in China, announced today the opening of its U.S. office in Silicon Valley, an arena for many of the world’s most successful IT businesses. The office aims to capitalize on the rich talent pool and latest IT technology that Silicon Valley has to offer. The Silicon Valley location will also allow the company to keep abreast of current and future trends in the IT and Internet industries, and to explore cooperative alliances with leading U.S.-based IT and Internet companies.

“Innovation, agility and speed underlie the success of many Silicon Valley-based IT and Internet companies,” Mr. King F. Lai, NetEase Chief Executive Officer commented. “Setting up our U.S. office in Silicon Valley is a strategic move. We believe it will help NetEase not only to keep our finger on the pulse of the Internet industry, but also to transform into a world class innovative, agile and efficient Internet company.”

Located in Newark, California, NetEase’s U.S. office will have four departments in operation: Research & Development, Business Development, Marketing and Sales. The workforce is a combination of the best of Chinese overseas graduates and local American talent who specialize in the IT and Internet industries. Jack Xu, Co-Chief Technology Officer of NetEase, has more than 9 years of experience working in Silicon Valley and is heading the new office. “Silicon Valley has been a hotbed of activity for the industry and hosts many of the world’s most successful IT and Internet businesses,” said Xu. “NetEase has a tradition of using the latest in technology to provide innovative online products and services for Chinese Internet users. The opening of the new office allows NetEase to have direct access to, and capitalize on, the latest technological developments in the Internet, which will help the company advance its leadership position in China’s Internet market.”

“The NetEase Web site is one of the leading portals in China, serving China’s Internet population, which has been doubling in size every six months over the past couple of years,” pointed out Ms. Susan Chen, Chief Operating Officer of NetEase. “However, many in the U.S. are unaware of this fact. We believe the establishment of our Silicon Valley office will allow U.S.-based companies and investors to better understand NetEase and China’s Internet market. Our strategic location will also give us the advantage of being able to form one-on-one relationships with key IT and Internet companies and to explore the potential to develop cooperative partnerships with these industry players.”

NetEase’s announcement of its U.S. office comes on the heels of the NetEase Web site’s ranking as China’s number one Web site in terms of both unique home audience and number of page views according to iamasia, a leading source of intelligence on Internet usage in the Asia Pacific region. In September, iamasia announced China’s top 20 Web sites ranked according to the number of unique home Internet users, placing the NetEase Web site, www.163.com, at the top of that list.
